Volga Delta - Best Attractions and Activities

The Volga Delta is the largest river delta in Europe, occurring where Volga River drains into the Caspian Sea, in Astrakhan Oblast of Russia. The delta has three different zones, due to the changing level of the Caspian Sea. The first zone has the highest areas, known as Baer's Mounds, represented by several linear ridges of clayey sands, ranging from 5 to 22 meters in height. The second zone is the proper delta, with very little relief and with active and abandoned water channels. And the third zone, which is a broad platform of 60 square kilometres, is the submarine part of the delta.
